Having seen their rivals Marvel flourish with a string of interlinked superhero franchises and with the finale of their own Dark Knight trilogy, DC Comics needed something big to follow on from the mixed reviews of 'Man of Steel.' They came up with 'Batman Vs. Superman' which on paper sounds promising if it were to take the tone of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. The big question was who would replace Christian Bale. Fans hoping for another gritty film were confused and angry when it revealed that Ben Affleck had been selected as the next man to take on the cowl. Despite his vastly improved performances in recent years that culminated in 'Argo' many seem to have had flashbacks to his last superhero film 'Daredevil.' Former Batman George Clooney gave his support to Ben saying 'he knows what he's doing' but at the same time said 'I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part.' All we can do is wait and see what happens. Perhaps the diminished expectations will mean the film is a pleasant surprise. After all, he's got the jaw line for it!
