12 Controversial Movies That Never Got Released

5. Glitterati

The Premise: Remember that awesome monologue about a trip to Europe that Victor (Kip Pardue) has in Roger Avary's The Rules of Attraction? Glitterati is basically a long-form, 90-minute version of that story, with Pardue reportedly staying in character throughout the entire 15-day shoot, while Avary shot 70 hours of footage, edited into a concisely chaotic 90 minutes. Why It Never Got Released: Avary has himself deemed the film "ethically questionable", and elected only to show it at surprise screenings rather than authorise a home release. Bret Easton Ellis, who worked with Avary on the project, says it is essentially 90 minutes of the actor hitting on and having sex with women all across Europe. If it's truly a documentary-style travelogue of the man's hedonistic exploits, then it's easy to see why Avary hasn't made much of an effort to unleash it upon worldwide audiences.
