12 Crazy Comic Book Movie Rumours That Thankfully Never Happened
7. J.J. Abrams' Superman Flyby
In 2002, back when J.J. Abrams was a relatively little known figure in the world of film and television, he penned Superman: Flyby, to be directed by Brett Ratner with a cast that was apparently set to include Josh Hartnett, David Boreanz, Jude Law and Brendan Fraser. Abrams completely rewrote Superman lore by pitting the hero's father, Jor-El, against his evil brother, Kata-Zor, in a Kryptonian civil war. Jor-El would have ended up being incorrectly sent to prison for war crimes, but would have sent his son - Kal-El, who would become Superman - to Earth where he would be raised by the Kents as per the story we more commonly associate with the character. Upon the revelation of Kal-El's true identity, he would be visited on Earth by his cousin, Ty-Zor, and his three minions. The story would then have turned ridiculous, as Kal-El would have been killed and sent to Kryptonian heaven, where he would have met up with his dead father, been resurrected, and then returned to Earth to defeat Ty-Zor and his minions. Sounds like it would have been a load of nonsense, if that rumoured plot is true.
