12 Crazy Comic Book Movie Rumours That Thankfully Never Happened
5. Mort The Dead Teenager
One of the more obscure and bizarre comic book movies that was rumoured - and indeed nearly happened - was the Marvel property Mort the Dead Teenager. For those of you not familiar with the character, he was created by Larry Hama and Gary Hallgren, had his own miniseries in 1993 and had a very fun premise. Mort - a teenager - died in a car crash, met the Grim Reapers son and ventured back to Earth in order to win a girl. He had typical ghostly powers and the ability to remove his head at will. All things considered, however, it featured a teenager being decapitated - probably not the kind of back-story Hollywood really want to be telling in this day and age. Although it's a relatively minor title, the stars attached to the movie were far from being minor. The movie was to be produced by Quentin Tarantino and would have starred Elijah Wood and Jessica Simpson in 2002. In fact, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis optioned the property and did nothing with it several years earlier as well. Frankly, we're pleased it didn't get off the ground, as the concept is just too bizarre.
