One has to respect Sam Raimi, the Director for the original Spiderman trilogy who had his film largely ruined by the interfering souls at Sony. While clearly outlining how the studios interfered with his vision, Raimi has always come across as more analytical than angry about the changes forced upon him, without shirking his own role in what he describes as an "awful" film.

The major bone of contention for the director was Sony's insistence on having the character of Venom appear in his film. Raimi wanted to wait for future entires to introduce the iconic anti-hero, as he believed that Venom needed his own film to be explored, rather than fighting for screen time with Sandman and Green Goblin. Raimi admits that he never felt comfortable with the film from this point on, unsure of how to best utilise a character that had been shoehorned into his film.

The inclusion of Venom also lead indirectly to the film's much derided 'Emo dance scene', something which Raimi states he now "cringes about". Raimi was also hesitant to take Peter Parker down a darker path, but acknowledged that this had to occur with the inclusion of Venom.

Raimi was forced to turn down Directorial duties for Spiderman 4, due to budgetary and timing constraints that the Director didn't believe he could make. One has to wonder though if the bad experience on Spiderman 3 played a part, with Raimi just being too nice a guy to reveal the truth.
