12 Dumb Decisions In Harry Potter Movies We Can't Forgive
6. Who Sent For The Dementors?
Both the film and novel versions of the fifth instalment,
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, feature a gripping and surprisingly
scary Dementor attack as Harry is besieged the mind-destroying ghouls whilst in
the regular world with his insufferable cousin Dudley. It’s an important opening
as Harry is forced to use magic in the muggle world to rid himself of their attackers,
but the film’s cluttered plot fails to explain where the threat came from.
In the novel, it’s assumed to be Voldemort himself, but later revealed to in fact be Umbridge, who sent them—an important twist. In the film, it’s… never addressed? Possibly still Umbridge, not that we ever hear that confirmed onscreen, or maybe Voldemort after all.
Hey, who knows, maybe there are just some loose Dementors stalking around England and getting into all sorts of scrapes in the confused continuity of the films.
