12 Dumb Decisions In Harry Potter Movies We Can't Forgive
4. Dumbledore's Not At All Calm Questioning Of Harry
Every actor needs the freedom to make a character their own, and Shakespearean stalwart Michael Gambon was aware he had huge shoes to fill when he replaced onetime hellraiser/ beloved screen legend Richard Harris after the latter passed away between filming instalments.
But whether Gambon himself
took more liberties than necessary with the role or the director pushed him in
this instance, the fourth film of the series features an infamous moment
wherein Gambon reverts to full-blown The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
hammy villainy, and the meme-worthy result speaks for itself.
The novel notes that Dumbledore “calmly” enquires as to whether Harry put his name on the eponymous Goblet whilst trying to cool tensions during a meeting. In the film version, Gambon roars the same accusation as if ready to murder Harry for getting off with his missus, and so the gentle sage of the books was changed for good—and for the worse, in most viewer’s eyes.
