12 Dumbest Action Movie Weapons

2. A Whip - Indiana Jones

Beverly Hills Cop 3
Paramount Pictures

Iconic? Yes. Practical when needing to knock switches and things off of other things? Hmm, I suppose so.

Functional as a weapon? No, because it is a whip.

There's a reason Indy whips (pun intended) out a pistol and shoots the swordsman in Raiders: because bullets are far more practical than slapping him about with a whip.

(Yes, there is an anecdotal real world story to this about on-set illness, but we'll keep it movie-based).

You could argue that Doctor Jones doesn't use this primarily as a weapon, indeed favouring guns from time to time. But there are instances where foes do shy away from the snap and crackle of a taut whip.

And yet... you've got to wonder why. Admittedly getting caught in the eye would sting like a mother, but who's going to shy away from that when they've got guns?

Let's see Indy swat bullets out of the air, then I'll change my tune.

It just seems a bit odd that he never thinks to pack more heat, considering what he inadvertently comes up against. By all means bring it, but y'know... bring more guns too.
