12 Dumbest Action Movie Weapons
5. Rocket Hammer - Alita: Battle Angel
Rockets, generally, tend to make things a lot better.
Boots, cars, skis, anything that you can prefix "rocket" to, really, is going to be a lot more fun. Well, and dangerous too, but we don't need to worry about that.
A hammer, though, doesn't seem to work. A hammer's power is in the heft of the swing... and probably more math to it than that. Basically, hammers don't really need more frills to them to make an impact.
I guess somebody behind the scenes of Alita: Battle Angel didn't agree, as they were happy to equip Waltz's Dr. Ido with one. Now, I get that in principle, it would accelerate the swing and cause more oomph when it lands.
Yet in the practical, it just looks unwieldy and surely, a bit uncontrollable too? Nor really the weapon of choice to swing about in a narrow alleyway.
You put your power into the swing, so having it accelerate ahead of you is bound to cause some muscular mischief. What if you misjudge the blast and it flies away from your grip?
Aesthetic points: ten. Practical implications: a two from the judges.
