The initial war against Thanos and his quest for the Infinity Stones spanned across many planets, and took the collective might of almost the entire catalogue of MCU heroes, with the exception of Hawkeye, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel. Even then they lost.

Thanos proved to be just too strong as he gained more and more of the stones, however Tony Stark, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians had the chance to defeat the Mad Titan before he ever touched down on Earth.

On Titan, Thanos had his arms pinned back, had been put to sleep by Mantis, and had Iron Man and Spider-Man trying to remove the gauntlet from his hand. They had almost relieved Thanos of his weapon, but instead of helping, Star-Lord decided this was the perfect moment to question him about Gamora.

Yes, Peter was desperate to find out what had happened to his love, but couldn't he have waited until Thanos was without his gauntlet to ask the questions? When he learned of Gamora's fate, he lashed out and attacked the Mad Titan, achieving nothing but waking the monster up and losing all hope of taking the gauntlet beating him there and then. It's been almost three years, and some fans still haven't forgiven him.
