4. Thanos Didn't Kill Thor When He Had The Chance - Avengers: Infinity War

The first we saw of Thanos during Infinity War, he had destroyed the Asgardian vessel that housed their entire population, slaughtered many on board, and had seemingly defeated Thor without too much effort, thanks to his possession of the Orb.

The Mad Titan also used the Power Stone to torture Thor, encouraging Loki to reveal the Tesseract so he could add a second stone to his collection. By the time he and his Black Order left the ship, Thanos had killed many people, including Heimdall and Loki, and had the power to kill Thor. So why didn't he?

The God of Thunder was more powerful than his best friend and brother, and would ultimately cause Thanos a lot of problems further down the line, including chopping off his head. Yet in his hand, the Mad Titan had the tools necessary to kill one of his most powerful adversaries. Particularly after Thor threatened to kill Thanos, the Titan should have made sure that was not possible.

Instead, he left him alive, giving him the opportunity to escape, craft Stormbreaker, and ultimately play a huge role in bringing back everyone that was snapped away. Maybe he assumed that Thor would die when the ship was destroyed, but it wouldn't have taken much for him to be certain.
