12 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2016
10. Brothery Love - Ben-Hur
Poor Ben-Hur seemingly came with the smell of failure attached to it. The trailers were lacklustre, it lacked star power and it was hard to see who it was geared towards. It also had the task of topping Charlton Heston 1959 take on the story, which was no small feat.
The middling final result failed to make any kind of dent at the box-office. Among its many issues (even the chariot race was dull) the film bolts on a last minute twist by having Ben-Hur and Messala – adoptive brothers who grew to become vengeful rivals – kiss and make-up. This twist wasn’t in any other version of the story and feels completely unearned and sugary here.
Messala’s being nothing but a petty, hateful douche throughout, so having him and Ben-Hur reunite as brothers rings utterly false.
