The Film: Long before Seth Rogen and James Franco were provoking the wrath of North Korea's Supreme Leader in 2014's The Interview, Hugo Weaving was making waves in an Australian film of the same name that barely made it to Stateside cinemas. Hauled from his bed one morning by armed police, Eddie Fleming is taken into an interview room and interrogated for hours about a grisly murder. While at first his situation seems entirely sympathetic, it soon transpires that the police are looking for a dangerous serial killer, and that Eddie actually fits their bill perfectly.

What The Rotten Tomatoes Critics Said: Australia's answer to The Usual Suspects. The Interview was hailed as one of the most ingeniously plotted films to come from Down Under for many a year, with the entire cast said to be in outstanding form from start to finish. Weaving's subtle performance kept everyone guessing right up until the death and he was widely (and rightly) praised, as was Craig Monahan for his tight direction and David Hirschfelder for his brooding score, though Rotten Tomatoes reviewer David Stratton singled out the film's cinematographer for plaudits:

"Though most of the film is set in the drab interview room, Simon Duggan pulls out all the stops to make The Interview a potent visual experience. Occasional flashbacks are hardly necessary, but do succeed in lightening the claustrophobic mood at key intervals."

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
