12 Great Recent Movie Performances Destined To Be Forgotten

9. Rebecca Ferguson - Doctor Sleep

A Shining sequel? Surely, it'd be a sure-fire hit! Alas, as WB learned, you can never assume success. Even with a strong cast and great talent behind the camera, this movie became a surprise box office disappointment with too few people showing up to give it proper praise that was due to director Mike Flanagan and the lead actors.

Speaking of the leads, while Ewan McGregor put out another great performance here, it's Rebecca Ferguson's Rose that's the likeliest to go forgotten, sadly. Most recognizable for her role in Mission Impossible, this against-type role as a sadistic, creepy cult leader was the most off-putting part of a movie that's a sequel to, you know, THE SHINING. The way she's able to sell this coy, manipulative persona with that clear hint of something truly sinister is remarkably effective and adds so much to the movie.

It's unclear what exactly made Doctor Sleep disappoint financially, but the work of Rebecca Ferguson and everyone else mustn't go unnoticed. With a high-profile role in Dune coming up, perhaps audiences can go back to this film and check out Ferguson's underrated range.
