10. A Battle Through The Multiverse (What If...?)
The MCU’s fourth instalment on Disney+, and first foray into the world of animation, was very inconsistent. It started somewhat underwhelmingly, and while there were some strong episodes throughout, they were almost outweighed by weak stories surrounding Thor and Killmonger. Episode eight was completely different however.
This was on a whole level above the rest of the series, as Ultron defeated the Avengers, took the Infinity Stones from Thanos’ corpse, and launched a full scale attack on The Watcher. The fact that he could even see and interact with Jeffrey Wright’s character was jaw dropping enough, but the actual fight was something special.
The two literally crashed through the walls of the multiverse, throwing each other into different universes never before seen in the MCU. Not only was this a completely unique action sequence, it was a coming together of arguably the two most powerful entities to ever fight each other on an MCU screen.
It’s just a shame that the season finale couldn’t quite live up to the episode that set it up, but even failing to stick the landing can't take away from this incredible battle.
