12 Greatest Monsterverse Movie Moments (So Far)

1. Kong: Skull Island - Kong Attacks The Helicopters

King Skull Island

And finally, the best moment of the Monster-Verse to date: Kong's helicopter attack in Kong: Skull Island.

Sometimes, along comes a scene so great it completely overshadows the rest of the movie and that's very much the case here. The film as a whole is a good one, but it very much peaks in this first set-piece.

The attack starts very abruptly; some American helicopters are circling Skull Island when Kong suddenly attacks one of them and there's no warning or build-up at all. Both the soldiers and the audience are thrown in at the deep end immediately and impressively, the sequence stays at this level of intensity the whole way through.

Thanks to terrific direction and editing, as well as some brilliantly inventive cinematography - which frequently places the viewers inside the helicopters while they're being destroyed - this is an exceptional sequence that will both frighten you silly and leave you staring at the screen in awe. Truly, this set-piece is monster movie perfection on every level, and you'll be sorry when it ends.

To all the future Monster-Verse films: good luck in ever topping this.
