The fertile ground of stable time loops is territory well-travelled by the sci fi genre, and this entry could as easily have spotlighted the likes of Christopher Smith’s Melissa George starring seaborne slasher Triangle (well worth a watch) or 2013’s twisty thriller Coherence (also a good shout). But we’ve singled out ABCs of Death contributor Nacho Vigalondo’s ultra low budget Timecrimes because the flick is wildly underseen, probably due to its tiny release, and though it served its purpose as a Hollywood calling card we’d hate for genre fans to miss out on this taut thriller due to a lack of promotional funding.

Following an increasingly desperate average joe named Hector as he falls into a time loop and must dispatch his many selves before the space time continuum goes ker-plut, the film grows in urgency and intensity across its brief run time, barely pausing to consider ethical implications when it could just be upping the ante further.

Primer this is not, so don’t come expecting advanced mathematics, but if you’re in the mood for some thrilling, amoral fun, this is a lo-fi sci-fi trip not to be missed.
