9. Wonder Woman
A
Wonder Woman film has been in serious consideration for over a decade, with
The Matrix producer Joel Silver trying to put it together, with names as diverse as Angelina Jolie, Rachel Bilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones being earmarked for the role. Between 2001 and 2005, the project passed through the hands of numerous writers, before it was announced that Joss Whedon would write and direct. However, Whedon was unable to complete a script within two years, and studio executives reportedly were not particularly taken with his outline. Therefore, in 2007, Whedon quit the project, citing a lack of support and enthusiasm on the part of the studio, though he did not rule out returning if that feeling changed in the future. Intent on pressing on with Wonder Woman nevertheless, Warner purchased a script from Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, though this in fact turned out to be more a strategic move than anything, to keep the rights from relapsing. Jennison and Strickland were, however, kept on board to write a more modern and up-to-date take on their script. Warner confirmed that the project was still in development in 2010, but not much has been heard since, other than that
Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn and one of the film's actresses, Christina Hendricks, would be interested in taking part in the film. Given how it's languished for well over a decade now, and Warner's seeming lack of enthusiasm to get the ball rolling, it's one I can't imagine coming to fruition any time soon, even though a film like this should be a slam dunk...
