12 Horror Movie Idiots Who Caused Their Own Doom
10. You Had One Job, Glen - A Nightmare On Elm Street
There was a time when Johnny Depp actually required an 'Introducing...' card on a film, and A Nightmare on Elm Street's release in 1984 was just that where he played Glen Lantz, Nancy Thompson's boyfriend. Glen is introduced as a fairly likeable individual, a little on the slow side in comparison to Nancy but more than faithful to her throughout his time on screen.
In a film about surviving a serial killer who stalks dreams however, he's absolutely useless. Not only does he witness the death of Tina and hear about Rod dying in his cell after falling asleep, but Glen is told countless times by Nancy that whatever he does, he mustn't fall asleep.
When Nancy is preparing for her final confrontation with Freddy Kreuger, she instructs Glen that when she pulls the fedora-wearing foe out of the dream world, he needs to be up and alert enough to beat him up. Glen decides then to camp out on his bed with a TV set and, naturally, falls asleep again. In one of the horror world's most beloved moments, Glen is then pulled into his bed and huge explosion of his blood indicates his demise.
