One of the very first slasher flicks in cinema history, Black Christmas is a 1974 Canadian film that follows the story of Jess and her fellow sisters at a sorority house. The girls then begin receiving disturbing calls from an unseen individual who slowly begins to kill off each one of them in some pretty iconic ways.

This gore however is really just a secondary part to what is a tense and mysterious game of cat and mouse. Each suspect is put forward with all of the guilt in the world, playing with audience's heads in a way that much more famous whodunnits such as Scream would eventually take influence from.

The big twist of Black Christmas comes during the climax of the film when the police discover that the phone calls have been coming from inside the sorority house the whole time.

They obviously tell Jess to get out of the house, but for some strange reason she realises that this is a horror movie and no place for logical decision making. Instead of running away for all she's worth, Jess begins pacing up and around the house, calling out to the man she knows has wiped out almost everyone she knows, and very nearly getting chopped apart because of it in a final standoff.
