Box Office: $628.5 million The Martian was a terrific achievement at the box office, proving far more successful than most pundits expected and in fact ending up as the highest-grossing of 2015's Best Picture Oscar nominees. That's right, Deadpool even steamrolled over the most populist of all the Oscar hopefuls: there's not much glory in beating low-key, low-budget movies like Brooklyn and Room, but a Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi flick based on a hugely popular novel starring an incredible cast led by the universally-loved Matt Damon? How does this happen? Deadpool for Best Picture next year (just kidding, it's not that great)?
