Gareth Edwards' Godzilla is shaping up to be something pretty special indeed, especially considering the goofy Roland Emmerich 1998 version it's contending against, which ultimately didn't give audiences enough of what they wanted some clear imagery of the titular monster itself, rather than what were mostly glimpses of its lower-body destroying things. I feel like Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was a movie that got the balance pretty much perfect the monster was obscured for most of the movie, but we got some great aerial coverage and some real money shots at the end of the movie, satisfying our curiosity about what the beast looked like. Now, we all know what Godzilla looks like, and Edwards has been very open about showing off the 2014 version in promotional materials, but hopefully this will transpire through to the final product as well. Though it would be overkill to constantly cut to an aerial shot of Godzilla wrecking everything, hiding him from us for the sake of it is an equally bad idea.
