10 Incredible Movies With TERRIBLE Villains

5. Walter Donovan - Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

One-dimensional villains have always been part and parcel of Indiana Jones. Having said that, Steve Spielberg and George Lucas' action-packed franchise gets away with it, due to how entertaining they usually are.

The creep factor skyrockets in Raiders of the Lost Ark every time Toht is on-screen. Mola Ram from The Temple of Doom is so nightmare-inducing, he's partially responsible for the 12A Rating's creation. (No, really.)

Then there's The Last Crusade's main villain, Walter Donovan (Julian Glover). Unlike other entries on this list, the character isn't underdeveloped. Also, Julian Glover does a marvellous job in the role, so his performance isn't the issue either. The problem with Donovan is he's a blatant carbon copy of Rene Belloq, Indy's rival from the first film.

Seeking godlike power from a Biblical artefact? Check.

Ally with the Nazis to use their resources to find said artefact? Check.

Allow Indy to find the artefact before taking it for himself? Check.

Killed by the biblical artefact after misusing it? Check.

Even though The Last Crusade is a magnificent spectacle, it's obvious Spielberg and Lucas recycled ideas from Raiders while devising Donovan. Save for his haunting death sequence, nothing in particular stands out about him.
