10 Incredible Movies With TERRIBLE Villains

4. Nero - Star Trek (2009)

In 2009, Hollywood boldly went where no man has gone before - rebooting the original Star Trek. Naturally, skepticism over JJ Abram's sci-fi project was at an all-time high.

Against the odds, Abrams' Star Trek was a hit at the box office and with critics. With its emotionally rich plot, warp-speed pacing, top-notch performances, and imaginative action sequences, Gene Roddenberry's beloved property appeared to be in safe hands.

The cosmic reimagining turned out so well, it's easy to forget about the villain... because he's forgettable. Eric Bana plays Nero, a Romulan captain who will stop at nothing to kill those he deems responsible for his world's destruction.

On paper, Nero should be fascinating. The fact he travels back in time to stop his planet from dying shows how far he's willing to go to accomplish his goal. Not only that, he successfully destroys Vulcan, something that the Enterprise's greatest enemies failed to achieve. With his detailed backstory and solid motivation, Nero could've been top-tier.

Unfortunately, Nero just comes across as a volatile hothead. Considering millions of his race were killed (including his wife), his temperament is understandable. However, seeing the tyrannical commander being angry the whole time quickly grows tiresome.

Even though 2009's Star Trek was a triumph for the franchise, it was no thanks to its underwhelming antagonist.
