3. The One That Was A Comedy Mockumentary - Jaws 3-D
The Movie We Know...
A 3D monstrosity that failed to land any of the blows that made the original Jaws so great, with Dennis Quaid playing Mike Brody watching on as a deadly Great White attacks Seaworld. Which Seaworld definitely deserves.
But, What We Almost Got...
A comedy mockumentary about the making of a movie about a shark. Like Scream 3, basically. While looking for more money from the Jaw franchise, Universal decided to throw a strange option into the ring by asking National Lampoon to make a sequel. Their script was called National Lampoon's Jaws 3, People 0, which is a much better title than Jaws 3-D, frankly.
John Hughes wrote it and Joe Dante was intended to direct, with Richard Dreyfuss returning to star in the story of a film studio's attempt to make a third Jaws movie. Like Scream 3 (again) the cast of the film-within-a-film ended up being killed off, but Steven Spielberg was hugely unimpressed and threatened to walk if they didn't treat his franchise with dignity. He obviously didn't watch Jaws: The Revenge, then.
It would probably have been considerably less funny than the sight of Dennis Quaid celebrating victory over the shark with some dolphins.
