12 Key Influences In Batman Begins

2. Dr. Crane Checks Out

Who can forget the classically terrifying moment in Batman Begins when Bats grabs a hold of Dr. Crane and doses him with his own fear toxin? The pant-wetting result is Crane visualising Batman as a grotesque, all-black, bat-like monster, at which point his only response to Batman is, "Dr. Crane isn't here right now, but if you'd like to make an appointment..." Here's an unambiguous example of Nolan and Goyer paying tribute to the comic Haunted Knight, where Scarecrow says the exact same dialogue when Batman confronts him. Again, the two scenes are materially very different, but Nolan and Goyer took the spirit of the original panel and translated it to a different medium exceedingly well.
