And, finally, there's the incredible tease for The Dark Knight that was Batman Begins' ending, as Gordon tells Batman that there's a violent new criminal in Gotham who needs to be dealt with, before showing him the iconic Joker card. Year One also ends with Gordon on a rooftop, ruminating to himself about a criminal who is threatening to poison Gotham's reservoir, going by the name The Joker, as he waits for Batman to show up so they can hatch a plan to stop him. Could there be a bigger lift? Given that he's easily Batman's most iconic foe, what more tantalising tease could there have been for bigger and better things for the second movie?
