As Batman flees the Gotham City's armed police in Batman Begins, he pulls an ultrasonic Bat-beacon out of his shoe, which quickly brings a swarm of bats to his location, giving him the perfect diversion to escape unimpeded. This has its roots in Batman: Year One, where Bats does just the very same thing to escape a S.W.A.T. team, and though the scenarios themselves are slightly different, the imagery is strikingly similar, as you can see above. After the Schumacher movies got too bogged down in what ridiculous tricks Batman could come up with, it was refreshing to see Nolan returning to something much closer to our own realm of plausibility.
