7. Uncut Gems

Adam Sandler gets a lot of grief for most of the work he's done with Netflix, but there's no real incentive for him to do better when those movies - which are continually mauled by critics - are still watched in record numbers. Why would he bother himself to make anything else?

The frustrating thing about that, of course, is that when Sandler does do great work, it tends to get overlooked. His best performances - in more serious movies - are also his least lucrative, traditionally, so it turns part of his usual crowd off. Perhaps that's why there's not more talk of how good a chance he has of winning an Oscar with Uncut Gems.

Already massively praised off the back of festival screenings, the crime drama starring Sandler as a jeweller forced to turn to extreme measures has been called remarkable and you really need to pay more attention.
