12 Lesser Known Fall Movies You Should Be Excited About
9. Burnt
Release date: October 16 (UK) / October 23 (US)
A man with bipolar disorder, an FBI agent, an American sniper, and now... a dude who wants to open a really cool restaurant. For the fourth time in the past several years, Bradley Cooper stars in a major fall drama, although this one involves lighter subject matter than he's delved into recently.
Cooper plays Adam Jones, a chef who destroyed his career due to a drug addiction, but now he must clean up his act and open a restaurant that can earn three Michelin stars. Director John Welles has actually described Burnt as a "cooking comedy." Either the comedic elements have been severely stripped back since then, or this is a ridiculously deceptive trailer.
Either way, Cooper appears to be bringing a lot to this role as he usually does, and one key moment in the trailer is somewhat reminiscent of J.K. Simmons in Whiplash; just replace drumming with cooking. Burnt does look like it might be injecting a bit too much drama into the story, as when Adam's life is for some reason being threatened by dozens of people because he's opening a freaking restaurant, but it still has potential to be an interesting character study and another memorable performance from Cooper.
