12 Massive Changes In Comic Book Movies From The Source Material

3. Aldrich Killian As The Mandarin

Guy-Pearce-Aldrich-Killian-Iron-Man-3-Poster Probably the most controversial of all the changes in this list occurred in this year's Iron Man 3. The Mandarin is, undoubtedly, Iron Man's arch-nemesis in the comic books, where he is depicted as a martial artist so skilled that he can compete with Iron Man in a physical tussle. He also wields ten rings of power that grant him ten different abilities, such as the ability to control people's minds, the ability to bring inanimate objects to life and the ability to fire blasts of energy, electricity, ice and flame. In the movie, it was far more confusing. The Mandarin was presented in television broadcasts as somewhat resembling his comic book counterpart in appearance, but didn't demonstrate any specific abilities and was later shown to be nothing more than a pathetic British actor called Trevor Slattery. The real Mandarin was Aldrich Killian - a minor character in the comics - and the man in the movie who was responsible for the creation of Extremis - a virus that can heal disabilities and grants the wielder superhuman powers, such as enhanced strength and durability, exothermic reaction and fire breath.
