Look, before you think this is another dig at Iron Man 3's big twist, it's not. That decision was smart, fun and it helped Marvel avoid having to use a racist stereotype as their villain. But then it was undone anyway.

On the hand, the fact that Marvel wrote an apology to fans upset about the "abuse" of The Mandarin as an "iconic" comic book character was a nice way of fixing the problems caused by claiming the Ten Rings were created by Aldrich Killian, but it also CREATED a problem by doing it exactly that.
