12 MCU Villains That Were Wasted

2. Taskmaster

Black Widow Ray Winstone Taskmaster
Marvel Studios

Taskmaster is a criminal mastermind with photographic reflexes, allowing him to replicate anything he sees. This allows him to hurl a shield like Captain America, somersault like Spider-Man, brawl like Daredevil, or shoot arrows like Hawkeye. With his ever-growing skill set, he can hold his own against half a dozen Avengers simultaneously.

Even though Taskmaster has one of the most original superpowers, it's his personality that makes him entertaining. With his quick wit and sarcastic banter during battle, the larger-than-life assassin has become one of the most popular baddies in Marvel.

Annoyingly, Taskmaster was sloppily handled in the 2021 film, Black Widow. Although we see the character can duplicate the actions of others throughout, the skull-faced mercenary's power has been scaled back to the point where he struggles to fight C-list superhumans like Red Guardian. Worse still, the sinister spy and saboteur was rewritten as a silent goon, robbing Taskmaster of his distinctive personality.

Even though the character gives up being Taskmaster in the climax, fans hope someone else will take on the mantle in the future to do the supervillain properly.
