12 MIA Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters Unlikely To Ever Return
4. Irani Rael (Glenn Close) And Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly)
The first Guardians Of The Galaxy placed considerable emphasis on the Nova Corps of Xandar, who ultimately allied with Peter Quill and company in their fight against the genocidal Ronan. Though Peter Serafinowicz’s Garthan Saal was killed, acting heavyweights Glenn Close and John C. Reilly were left alive to the lead the planet’s defence of the Power Stone once the Guardians departed for new adventures.
The opening scene of Infinity War, which saw Thanos attack Thor’s Asgardians, revealed that he had already obtained the Power Stone. The destruction of Xandar was presumably cut for time or budget constraints, with Rael and Dey presumed deceased.
Glenn Close was contracted for several films, whilst John C. Reilly’s comic counterpart plays a huge part in the origin story of Nova, one of the most notable Marvel heroes yet to be introduced to the MCU, so nothing is outside the realms of possibility.
With Guardians 3 likely to focus on Adam Warlock and Quill’s attempts to connect with the new Gamora following Endgame, however, the pair are likely to be towards the bottom of James Gunn’s list of priorities for what could well be the final part of a trilogy.
