Runtime: 85 minutes It's a romance. No, it's sci-fi. Or... wait, is it an action adventure comedy? Yeah that's... that has to be it. Safety Not Guaranteed operates from within its own rulebook, which pays dividends to those who thought they knew how this one was going to end from the moment Aubrey Plaza read Mark Duplass' unusual classified ad seeking a time-traveling companion. This cast is so good it's bonkers. Seriously, what casting agent genius was lofty enough to cram Plaza, Duplass, Jake Johnson, and Karan Soni altogether into this quirky, compelling indie flick? That person deserves an award. Or a really big cupcake. Enough can't be said about Duplass' turn as a seemingly cuckoo, enchantingly mysterious inventor. Though Plaza could be considered the star (and she does a remarkable job, dropping the aloofness of her most well-known character in favour of something a little more honest), it's Duplass who steals every scene he's in with weird sense of masculinity and unflappable confidence.
