12 Modern Movie Gems Under 90 Minutes

6. Run Lola Run

Runtime: 81 minutes Run Lola Run could very well be the most exhilarating cinematic experience of the 90s, which may not seem like a hefty compliment until you realie that most of the best thrillers in movie history stemmed from this time period. Still, Tom Tykwer's punchy, hyper-paced flash grenade of a movie hits all the right visual and stylistic beats and doesn't mess around with the inessentials. The plot is about as simple as can be: Lola has 20 minutes to procure enough money to save her lover from being killed. Annnnnnd GO. From there, it's all about this punk-looking badass' quest to save the day. And the best part? The movie doesn't make a big deal about the fact that it's a woman saving the male damsel in distress. It also makes sure to sturdy the freight train with ample character development and narrative complexity, lest this whole intense, nihilistic effort go right off the rails.
