Hostel helmer/ all-round horror icon Eli Roth made an auspicious debut with 2002’s terrifying body horror/ hillbilly thriller hybrid Cabin Fever, a flick which seems like it’ll be a Hills Have Eyes style survival flick but soon turns into something more satirically sharp and gruesome.
As the teenage cast are slowly picked off one by one due to their hubris and arrogance, a few the more morally upright characters begin being offed as well, leaving viewers unable to tell what it takes to survive this ordeal. By the closing scene, all but one of the most hateable characters have been killed, and only this singular scumbag has survived—that is, until he gets shot to bits by misguided locals out of nowhere.
