For much of its runtime, The Shawshank Redemption helmer Frank Darabont's 2007 sci fi horror The Mist plays out as an above average piece of white-knuckle genre fare, scarier than most monster movies despite its limited budget thanks to an ingeniously small setting and convincing cast of characters.

As the denizens of a small town hide inside a supermarket from the eponymous weather phenomenon and the monstrous beasts it harbours, the film plays a out a slow burn parable of religious torment and the perils of mob justice in a movie made ever more terrifying that there's no escape from its human monsters and, well, monster monsters.

And then there's that infamous ending...
