12 Most Desperate Oscar Grab Movies Of 2016
9. Jackie
Undoubtedly one of the most buzzed about films of 2016,
Jackie combines the talents of Best Actress Oscar winning actress Natalie
Portman and acclaimed Chilean auteur Pablo Larrain and focuses on the life of
First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis after the 1963 assassination of her husband
and US president John F. Kennedy.
Political biopics tend to do pretty well when it comes to Oscars. Back in 1982 Gandhi all but swept the Academy Awards clean with eight wins, 1991’s JFK was nominated for eight Oscars and won two and more recently Maggie Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady scooped Meryl Streep a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of the former British Prime Minister.
To give Jackie its dues it’s a cut above the average political biopic boasting the artistic flair of both Larrain and Portman, a chilling from award-winning composer Mica Levi and a stunning look courtesy of acclaimed cinematographer Stéphane Fontaine and therefore fully deserving of any Oscar nominations it might eventually receive.
Still Oscar-grabby as hell though.
