The stakes have never been higher than in Godzilla vs Destoroyah. From the get-go, it's clear Godzilla is dying from radiation poisoning. When he dies, it will cause a nuclear explosion that will engulf the Earth.

Not only that, Godzilla must contend with a new threat called Destoroyah; a beast created from the Oxygen Destroyer that killed the original Godzilla. Destoroyah is considered the evilest kaiju in the franchise since he kills, not out of instinct, but out of enjoyment.

Even though Godzilla realises he is dying, he refuses to go down without a fight and confronts Destoroyah. But since Destoroyah is constantly evolving to become a more efficient killing machine, he easily triumphs over the so-called king of the monsters.

After Destoroyah murders Godzilla's son, it awakens a new power within the giant dinosaur called the Infinite Heat Ray. After being shot by the laser, Destoroyah tries to fly away but is shot down by the army. When the beast falls to the ground, he is incinerated since it's been superheated by the radiation spewing out of Godzilla's body.

Although the army avoid Godzilla detonating by freezing him, it's still tragic to watch him die, trying to avenge his son.
