12 Most Epic Godzilla Battles

Gareth Edward's Godzilla introduced the first new kaiju in an American Godzilla movie called Mutos. These metallic mantis-like creatures weren't hinted at in the trailer so it was a nice surprise to see Godzilla battle, not one, but two Mutos.

Also, this movie was a big deal because it was the first time we saw a CGI Godzilla fighting a CGI monster. Thanks to top-of-the-line VFX, the monsters move far more fluidly, making their battles far more impressive and creative.

Introducing the Mutos helped evolve Godzilla as a character since we witness him change from a tyrannical monster into a territorial creature who indirectly protects humanity from unwanted threats.

For most of the scrap, the Mutos overwhelm the colossal lizard in order to protect their young. Ironically, their paternal instincts become their downfall.

Even though the Mutos overpower Godzilla, they become unable to concentrate on the brawl after American soldiers destroy their nest. While distracted, Godzilla uses his atomic breath for the first time to devastate the female Muto and finishes her off by shooting an atomic blast directly into her mouth.
