12 Most Expensive Movie Props Ever Sold

4. Cowardly Lion Costume

Sold for: $3,000,000 At almost twice the price of the Do Re Mi collection, the costume worn by Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard Of Oz represents a whole new league of prop and memorabilia collecting. The costume was discovered carefully stored in one of the oldest buildings on the MGM lot, and was sold complete with a photo-realistic sculpture of Lahr's head for an enormous seven-digit price. The inordinate sum paid for the costume is perhaps attributed to the fact that the character is one of the most endearing in the film; The Cowardly Lion is someone that - let's be honest - we can all relate to. Fortunately, the buyer wasn't hindered by the same crippling fear as the character when it came to auction, as it must have taken plenty of courage to put that much money on the table.
