Sold for: $805,000 The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car, registration GEN 11, was an actual roadworthy vehicle, unlike many movie cars of the time. When sold at auction in 2011, it fetched nearly a million, bought by none other than Lord Of The Rings director Sir Peter Jackson, who planned to use the prop for charitable purposes. Dick Van Dyke, responsible for driving the car in the 1968 film, allegedly disliked the car, criticising its poor handling and its "turning radius of a battleship". Regardless, replicas of Chitty are as common as the DeLorean. According to Guinness World Records, the version seen in the theatre production is the most expensive stage prop ever made, actually surpassing the $1,000,000 mark.
