Director Zal Batmanglijs indie psychological thriller Sound of my Voice went largely under the mainstream radar, though it did prove a hit with critics and on the festival circuit. Focusing on two filmmakers trying to expose a cult, the film stars indie darling Brit Marling (who also co-wrote and co-produced the film) as a charismatic cult leader who believes she is a time-traveller from the future. To promote the film an equally cultish campaign was devised with a series of creepy clips posted online that went a tad further than your average viral video including directions to Los Angeles Ukrainian Culture Centre where interactive mock cult meetings were staged. Strange as it was, it worked: the film went on to gross over three times its shoestring budget of $135,000 and on only a limited release too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRULNCK27bY
