7. Ex Machina Swipes Right

Tinder users at Austin€™s SXSW festival earlier this year were the target of Ex Machina€™s clever but creepy campaign. Armed with a fake Tinder profile featuring a picture of the film€™s star Alicia Vikander, the campaign started sending messages like €˜have you even been in love?€™ and €˜what makes you human?€™ before directing those who responded to a promotional Instagram profile for the movie. While it€™s definitely an intelligent use of new social media and a clever tie-in to Ex Machina€™s artificial intelligence themes there was a bit of an outcry about the invasive nature of the campaign, not to mention the smashed hopes of festival-goers who thought they might have a chance with the lovely Alicia Vikander.
