12 Most F*cked Up Movie Marketing Campaigns

6. The Urban Graffiti - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres

Some marketing campaigns might shock, scare or just plain annoy but very rarely do they result in a city being shut down and the bomb squad being called. As part of the guerrilla campaign for Adult Swim spin-off film Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres, LED displays depicting the TV show€™s characters giving the finger were surreptitiously placed in cities across the US. Nobody seemed to notice in many of those cities, but in Boston paranoid officials were notified of their presence and, determining them a possible threat to public safety, summoned emergency services and the bomb squad to the scene immediately shutting down several major roads in the process. For their sins Adult Swim€™s parent company Turner Broadcasting and alternative marketing agency Interference were forced to pay the Boston Police Department and Department of Homeland Security $1 million each for costs incurred during the incident.
