12 Most Hopeless Sci-Fi Movie Endings

10. The Mist (2007)

A Clockwork Orange
MGM

The Mist is one of Stephen King's most disturbing novellas and that is saying something. Therefore, it came as no surprise to see that the book was eventually made into a movie and remains fairly faithful to King's initial words.

It all starts after a terrifying thunderstorm encourages David and his son Billy to head to the grocery store to pick up supplies. When he arrives he notices that a number of neighboring residents have done the same thing. Right on cue, an unusual mist is spotted rolling into town, killing those that dare go near it.

Thankfully, David, his son, and some others manage to escape in a car which ends up running out of gas hours later. The group then consent to mass euthanasia and claim that they would rather be shot in the face by David than eaten up by the deadly beast that resides in the dreaded mist. David takes on the role of chief executioner and shoots them all including his own son. Then, just before turning the gun on himself the ominous sound in the mist turns out to be the military who had defeated the alien-like creature earlier on and were on their way to rescue them.

Oh David, if only you had waited a few extra seconds...
