12 Most Hopeless Sci-Fi Movie Endings

4. Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers may have been remade a bunch of times but the best is by far the 1956 version.

In the film we follow the life of Dr. Miles Bennell who is confused as to why all of his patients are complaining about the same thing; their loved ones have gone a bit weird. It is then revealed that aliens (or pod people) have taken over their bodies and are making their way swiftly through town.

The ending is memorable in that Miles is eventually driven mad. The crazed pod-people continue to over the lives of the neighborhood forcing Miles to escape by jumping on a truck on its way to Los Angeles. Sadly for Miles, the truck is packed to the brim with space-pods sending Miles into a frenzy shouting, "They're here already! You're next! You're next!" right at the camera. The screen then goes black.

Or at least it did. Annoyingly, the intended ending was deemed too hopeless so we are then treated to a final scene that shows the deranged Miles desperately trying to make the cops believe him. At first, they disregard him as a nut job but news of truck with weird-looking pods gets back to the station, thus rendering Miles's story true.

Whatever the ending, it is still pretty scary to find out that if there were a mass invasion of the petrifying pod people then it is pretty doubtful that anyone would believe you nor would anything be done about it.
