12 Most Memorable Christmas Songs From The Movies

1. White Christmas - Holiday Inn, White Christmas

Is this the number one Christmas song of them all? Re-recorded and re-released more times than most could begin to keep track of, it's been a seasonal standard for longer than most people reading this will have been alive.

Bing Crosby first performed White Christmas, composed by Irving Berlin, all the way back in 1941 - a Christmas Day performance, in the wake of the notorious attack on Pearl Harbor. The following year it was featured in the musical Holiday Inn, and wound up winning the Best Original Song Oscar.

However, it wouldn't be until 13 years later that Crosby would sing it again in the film of the same name, a full colour production set on the last Christmas before the end of the war, co-starring Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.

But whichever film you're more familiar with - or indeed, even if you've never seen either - White Christmas remains a classic tune that will always be synonymous with this time of year. Even if it leaves a great many of us with largely unrealistic hopes about the potential of snowfall over the holiday itself.

Ben Bussey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
