5. Batman Bangs Batgirl (For Some Reason) - Batman: The Killing Joke
The Revelation: After having an argument, Batgirl and Batman start making out, and before you know it, they're banging on the roof of a building all while a gargoyle statue creepily presides over them.
Why It Was Surprising: Above all else, this doesn't happen in Alan Moore's source material, but was part of a 30-minute prologue tacked onto the animated movie in order to bloat it out to feature length.
If that's not unsettling and surprising enough, when you consider that Batman has basically always been more of a father figure to Barbara Gordon than a sexual partner, and he's good pals with her pop Jim, it enters a whole new level of creepy.
Nobody expected or really wanted this (apart from a few fetishists) and the fans rightly tore the film apart as a result.
